How This Directory Works
Not all restoration companies are equal. This directory helps you tell the good from the bad before anyone steps into your home.
Verified company profiles. Services offered, credentials held, and areas served. Facts, not marketing fluff.
What to check before hiring. License numbers, insurance proof, and IICRC certification. We show you how to verify each one.
Red flags to avoid. Storm chasers, cash-only crews, and unlicensed mold testers. Know them before they knock on your door.
Need help right now? Our own certified crews answer 24/7 at
(800) 555-0199 . No waiting for a callback.
Certifications That Actually Matter
Anyone can print "certified" on a truck. These IICRC credentials prove real training. Ask which ones the crew holds.
Certification What It Proves Why You Should Care
WRT (Water Restoration Technician)Training in water categories, extraction, and drying basics The minimum any tech on your job should hold
ASD (Applied Structural Drying)Advanced drying science and moisture mapping Needed for complex jobs with hidden moisture
AMRT (Microbial Remediation Technician)Mold containment and remediation procedures Essential when mold is present or suspected
HST (Health and Safety Technician)Jobsite safety and hazard recognition Matters on sewage and contaminated water jobs
Source: IICRC certification standards (iicrc.org ). None of these are legally required, which is exactly why they separate pros from pretenders.
10-Point Vetting Checklist
Run every contractor through this list before signing anything. A good company passes all ten without hesitation.
Proof of IICRC certification. Ask for the technician names and their WRT or ASD numbers. Real pros show them proudly.
General liability insurance. Request the certificate directly from their insurer, not a photocopy from the contractor.
Workers comp coverage. If a tech gets hurt in your home without it, you could face the claim.
Written scope and price. Line items, not a single lump sum. You should see exactly what each step costs.
Moisture mapping process. Ask how they find hidden water. "We just know" is not an answer. Meters and thermal cameras are.
Daily drying logs. Pros record moisture readings every day. This log also protects your insurance claim.
Local references. Three recent jobs in your area, with phone numbers. Call at least one.
Written warranty. Minimum 12 months on repairs. Get it in writing, not as a handshake promise.
Direct insurance billing. Good companies bill your insurer in Xactimate and handle the paperwork with you.
No full payment upfront. Deposits are normal. Full payment before work starts is a red flag.
5 Red Flags That Scream "Walk Away"
Storm chasers knocking after a disaster. Out-of-state crews flood in after hurricanes, take deposits, and vanish. Hire local.
Cash-only pricing. No paper trail means no accountability and no warranty worth the paper it is not written on.
Pressure to sign today. "This price expires tonight" is a sales tactic, not an emergency. Real emergencies get crews, not contracts.
No physical address. A PO box and a cell number is not a company. Visit their office or shop if you can.
They badmouth your insurer. Pros work with adjusters daily. Anyone who tells you to hide damage from insurance is planning fraud with your name on it.
Questions to Ask Before Anyone Starts
Beyond certifications, these questions reveal how a company actually operates:
Who supervises the job daily? You want a named lead tech, not a rotating crew of strangers.
What is your typical response time? Under 90 minutes in metro areas is the pro standard.
How do you handle contaminated water? Category 3 jobs need full containment and PPE protocols, not just mops.
Will you document for my insurance? Photos, moisture logs, and Xactimate estimates should be standard, not extra.
What happens if mold appears later? Their answer reveals whether they dry to verified standards or just to "looks dry."

Contractor Directory FAQs
How does this contractor directory work? Browse verified company profiles with services, credentials, and hiring checklists. New listings are being added now.
Do you recommend specific contractors? Our directory teaches you how to vet any contractor in your state. For immediate help, our own certified crews are available at (800) 555-0199.
What is the most important certification for a restoration contractor? WRT (Water Restoration Technician) from the IICRC is the baseline. For complex drying jobs, look for ASD too. Ask for the technician's certification number, not just the company name.
Should I get multiple estimates? Yes, get two or three for non-emergency work. Compare line items, not just totals. For active emergencies, speed matters more than shopping around.
Can a contractor start work before my insurance approves? Yes, emergency mitigation should start immediately to prevent more damage. Document everything. Most policies require you to prevent further damage, so waiting can hurt your claim.
How can my company get listed? A contractor partner program is coming soon. Call (800) 555-0199 to discuss working with us.
